More than 50 representatives of the political and business scenes attended, on 18 December, the presentation of the Spanish-Indonesian Business Council (CEHI in its Spanish acronym), a private organization that intends to serve as platform to increase trade and business possibilities between both countries.
The event took place at the headquarters of the Innovation Centre of BBVA in Madrid and was attended by the director general for North America, Asia and the Pacific of the Foreign Ministry, Fidel Sendagorta, who announced the possibility of the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, visiting Spain during the first half of 2018.
During the event, the president of the Spanish-Indonesian Business Council and of the company Globaltec, Manuel Valdés, affirmed that Indonesia represents an “opportunity” for Spanish companies thanks to the infrastructures plans of the current Government of Jakarta, whose objective is that the country “stops exporting only raw materials” and starts commercialising products with “a first level of transformation”.
The Council, which will start its activities in January, has been conceived thanks to the initiative of “a group of particular businesspeople and companies” interested in “strengthening, from the private field, what the Spanish and Indonesian authorities were already doing to promote all this flow of investments and projects”, Valdés pointed out.
This private organization intends to increase bilateral business opportunities and trade
According to Manuel Valdés, imports in Spain from Indonesia amount to 1,700 million euros and Spanish exports to the Asian country amount to around 400 million euros. According to data of the World Bank Indonesia will experience, in 2018, an economic increase above five per cent.
