Airport I Gusti Ngurah Rai Closed Due To Volcanic Dust

JAKARTA – I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was closed temporarily from Monday morning (27/17) at 07:15 WITA due to the impact of volcanic ash Gunung Agung. The General Company of Aviation Navigation Service Provider (Perum LPPNPI / AirNav Indonesia) immediately issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) number A4242 / 17 which provides info to all flight stakeholders regarding the current condition at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Described by the Director of Operations AirNav Indonesia, Wisnu Darjono, that NOTAM contains the time and reasons for the closure of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. “Mount Agung volcano has closed the air space above Denpasar, so due to safety reasons, the air space can not be used so that the operational of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar is temporarily closed. In the NOTAM that has been issued, the closing takes place until 07:00 WITA tomorrow (28/11), but the latest situation developments and information updates from related parties such as BMKG and PVMBG will always be updated to the airline stakeholders through the latest NOTAM, “He said.

He explained that International and Domestic flights were affected by this closure. “Aircraft flying both domestic and international destinations that are currently airing Denpasar, will be transferred to the nearest airports such as Juanda, Makassar, Lombok or Kupang. The incoming data has seven flights that have been transferred. The latest updates will be delivered later, “he explained.

The seven flights to Bali include Garuda Indonesia GA 5150 Zhengzou-Denpasar transferred to Surabaya, GA 897 Guangzhou-Denpasar transferred to Surabaya, GA 859 Shanghai-Denpasar transferred to Jakarta, China Easter MU 5029 Shanghai-Denpasar transferred to Jakarta, MU 781 Beijing-Denpasar transferred to Singapore, Citilink CTV 856 Jakarta-Denpasar transferred to Surabaya, and Lion Air JT927 Makassar-Denpasar transferred to Surabaya.

Wisnu added that stakeholders in the field continue to coordinate and actively synergize in handling this condition. “We continue to enhance cooperation and coordination with relevant parties to minimize the impact on connectivity in Indonesian air space.
